Residential development Burg. Lionel Pussemierstraat
De Wegelweg, Eeklo
Not far from the city center of Eeklo, a residential building redefines the southern edge of a newly to be developed public space. It erects a facade to a forecourt that provides access to the city’s swimming pool.
Oriented north-south and with a significant building depth of 18 meters, the plan offers a solution for ample daylight by incorporating an open circulation zone on the park side. The residences are arranged around this open core. An outdoor staircase is open to natural light and provides a view of the park.

The all-sided character of the building is enhanced by extending the terraces along all facades. On the northern side, it’s by the shallow balconies that overlook the park. On the southern side, deep terraces visually enlarge the living spaces.
The kinked building profile segments the facade. Slender columns placed in the facade plane support the terraces. In every direction, the views of the square, park, and city are framed.
